Skiing is basically over and the water is still too cold to go for a swim, so why would you want to enjoy Lake Tahoe right now? Many reasons! Locals love Lake Tahoe all year around, but there are two times a year that we look forward to: Fall & Spring “shoulder seasons”. This is a term used by Lake Tahoe locals to describe the down time in between our busiest seasons, Winter & Summer. There is actually a lot to do outside and we don’t have to battle traffic and thousands of visitors to do it.
Spring Skiing is a perfect outdoor activity that allow you to ditch your coat, enjoy the sun (don’t forget that SPF folks!) and still shred the powder. While some of the south shore ski resorts already had their closing weekend, some of the North & West shore resorts (Mt. Rose, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows) plan to operate through May. So gear up for sunny blue bird days, snow and less crowds. Just be sure to check the ski resort websites to confirm operations.
Slow season savings also give you the opportunity to stay at that luxurious hotel or resort you have been eyeing every time you come to Lake Tahoe. During our shoulder seasons, most of the local accommodations drop their prices or feature limited time sales.
The mix of weather allows you to soak up all of Lake Tahoe’s seasons in just a few days. Perfect example: yesterday in South Lake Tahoe we experienced snow in the morning and then today it is sunny blue skies. So if you can’t decide which season is your favorite (don’t worry, you aren’t alone), you don’t have to pick. Go spring skiing one day and then be on the lake boating the next. This is also a perfect time to check out the local hot springs. We have a few places located close by and the weather is great because it isn’t too hot and it isn’t too warm.
Whether you are a visitor or a brand new local, enjoy all the great amenities South Lake Tahoe has to offer year around. If you fall in love with the area and want to explore investing in Tahoe Keys real estate, give me a call at 530-308-4331.
