A hot topic in South Lake Tahoe is the new Vacation Home Rental Ordinance suggested as a result of complaints from full time residents that visitors staying in Lake Tahoe homes were noisy, left trash and were over occupancy capacity. A new ordinance has been put into place with stricter requirements and enforcement of fines if rules are broken. There will also be new fees based on whether or not you have had violations. If you have 3 or more, you will be looking at double your usual renewal amount. The fee structure is currently not permanent and will be reevaluated in another year to address whether it needs to be reduced or increased. Additionally, there will be a full time VHR code enforcement officer hired to work Thursday-Sunday 4:00pm-2:00am to ensure that complaints are handled. While there are more revisions and changes expected to happen, here are a few changes you could see for your Lake Tahoe home:
Cars are required to park in certain areas specifically designated for parking, and cannot line the street making it a hassle for people to get in and out of their neighborhood.
No noise after 10pm. This includes music and hot tub jets.
Trash cannot be put out until 6:00pm on the evening before trash day.
Occupancy will be enforced so that homes with two or more bedrooms get two people per room, plus four extra people not including kids age 10 and under. A one bedroom will allow for four people and a studio, two people
