Lake Tahoe is a world class destination all year around. During the winter, blizzards are celebrated by snow enthusiasts while the summer brings about beach days, hiking, biking, outdoor concerts and boat cruises. Tahoe Keys real estate also has two different types of people-the beach bums and the ski bums. There are the year round residents that love Lake Tahoe regardless of the season and then there are the folks that prefer our region for one season over the other. Hence, why Tahoe Keys real estate is also known as a second home resort market. We have people that live here 6 months out of the year and then live the other half elsewhere. So what do you do if you are a beach bum that is headed to Lake Tahoe in the winter? Well, a lot actually. Check out these ideas for activities!
Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing is a great alternative to skiing and snowboarding. Whether you simply don’t like those other activities or you are put off by the crowds or have never done it, Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are two awesome ways to enjoy the snow. Not to mention, you don’t have to go downhill if you don’t want to AND you can pick places that don’t have any crowds. Many Tahoe Keys real estate residents will do this activities outside their front door! All over Lake Tahoe you can find open meadows and miles of tree-lined trails.
Tubing is a great, family friendly activity that can be done by the baby AND the grandpa! All of South Lake Tahoe’s local ski resorts have an area specifically for this activity. Great way to spend the day if you have someone in the group that really wants to go skiing or snowboarding. You can split up and enjoy apres ski as a group after!
Speaking of apres, South Lake Tahoe has multiple spots complete with a fire pit to warm you up after a long day playing in the snow. Fire & Ice, Base Camp Pizza, Base Camp Hotel, McP’s, Hard Rock Cafe, Azul Latin Kitchen and California Burger company are all popular spots to grab some grub and a Hot Toddy while listening to live music around a warm fire.
Sleigh rides are another great family friendly activity. Draft horses pull authentically decorated sleighs through forests and fields to give passengers the ultimate winter ride.
Already got your turns in and want something a little more daring? There are multiple different snowmobile tours to choose from on the South Shore. Crank up the speed as you zip through the snow covered forest. Skiiers and snowboarders can even scope out some new lines this way, weather and safety permitting of course.
If you have had enough of the snow and prefer something a little warmer, head inside to one of the many casinos for some gambling, video arcades, shopping, dining or one of the many concerts and shows put on weekly. Or, simply go home, add some logs to the fire and pull out the board games. There is something truly magical about a Lake Tahoe winters night in.
