Do you need to move out before your property sells? It happens, especially when the purpose of selling is for career relocation. I recently did a blog topic on keeping your home safe while you are away on holiday or for the season, however just because your home has been emptied of furniture and belongings does not mean you are in the safe zone. In fact, you could still be at risk for a break in. Appliances, copper wiring and high end finishes and fixtures can be an attraction to criminals that are aware of a vacant home. The repaired damages and stolen house items can add up to the thousands. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to convince passerby the property is occupied and keep your investment as safe as possible.
Ask for Help
Upon move out, tell your closest (and trusted) neighbors in addition to the local neighborhood watch program. You could even go as far as to tell the local police department that when they are patrolling in your area to keep an eye out. With more eyes on your property, the better chance you have of getting authorities to your Tahoe Keys home quickly in the event that something happens.
Stay On Top Of Repairs, Especially On The Exterior
If you can get to the property a couple times a month, make an effort to ensure that any exterior repairs are fixed in a timely manner. If you can’t get to the property, pay someone to do it or ask a trusted friend. While a small repair, such as cracked window or a loose shutter, doesn’t seem like something worthy of your time, this is the type of repair that a live in owner would take care of quickly. Left long enough, a criminal will notice and could target your house next.
Use Your Driveway
If the driveway is attached to your Tahoe Keys home for sale, invite the neighbors to park a car or boat there. Let them know if they have company visiting that their guests are more than welcome to use that space as well. A parked car in the driveway indicates someone is home and is a great deterrent.
Leave Behind The Window Décor
If possible, leave behind the blinds or curtains and keep them home. If the view inside is not obstructed, a criminal will be able to see the potential opportunity inside. Don’t forget about the back of the house either.
Remember to tell your Tahoe Keys REALTOR® about your moving plans. Once the property is vacant, your agent will want to take extra precautions.
