Purge!! Most sellers don’t realize they are actually moving until the stager shows up ready to roll. This is likely because they see their home go from a personalized place to a space that doesn’t represent them at all. This is tough, but a huge part of the moving process. You can help lessen this blow by doing some work before the stager even shows up. How? Simple. Start going through your things and tossing, donating and most importantly-emotionally disconnecting. This will prep you for that moment when you walk through your door and see that your home is not longer really your home.
Next up, don’t dillydally. If the stagers made some recommendations on changes you need to do on your part, get it done. Typically these changes are small, simple fix its. Occasionally they can be bigger requests, such as painting or a new door. If they show up to do their part and your part isn’t done, it can set back the process and you could miss out on a great buyer.
If possible, move out. I know, it seems harsh and a little extreme but it does make the staging process easier.
