So you are looking to buy a home in Lake Tahoe and you think of all the obvious: getting pre-qualified, saving up money, cleaning up any credit errors and all the other basics. However, there are so many things people don’t think about. Here are a few tips to consider when plunging into the world of home ownership:
1.) Think long-term and re-sale.
This is so important when buying a Tahoe Keys home for sale. Most people buy for the here and now as instant gratification is the driving force behind so many purchases. Buying a home is a huge (and great) investment. Think long term. Will you be having kids? Caring for in laws or grandparents? Do you intend to move in the next 5 years? Could this home be a rental? These are all things to consider. After all, if you only plan on living in the home for a short amount of time and then renting it, you need to think of your demographic and who you will want renting it out. For example, if you want a family, you will need to consider which area has the best school district. Same goes for when it is time to sell. Thinking long term is one of the many facets that come with making a major financial investment.
2.) Speaking of demographics, learn about the neighborhood demographics.
Chances are, you will want to be around like minded people or folks that are living a similar lifestyle to you. If you have children, you probably prefer a quite and safe street with other families. If you are single, you may prefer being close to all the activities and entertainment. When choosing a qualified Lake Tahoe Realtor, ask them about their knowledge on the local area and which neighborhood they think is best for you based on your lifestyle and activities.
3.) Look beyond the staging & imagine your stuff in the home.
We all know that a staged house shows better compared to one that is messy, cluttered and very clearly occupied. Their is a lot of thought and psychology that goes into preparing a home for a showing, such as moving furniture around so the house is more open and flows better, lighting, etc. Sometimes, things get moved in an unrealistic location-like lamps staged where there are no outlets. It looks awesome but when you move in, your ability to copy cat the same look would be very difficult without some electrical work and light remodeling. Try and imagine these homes for the layout and space and imagine your belongings in the property. Same goes for a property that needs a little TLC. Bright paint, weird wall paper and ugly carpeting can all be removed and replaced with something more your taste and visually appealing.
4.) Be sure to read your contract before you sign it.
Buying a home for sale in Lake Tahoe is probably going to be one of the largest purchases you will make. Understanding the terms of your real estate contract is incredibly crucial. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask your real estate agent or mortgage broker. If they cannot explain it to you, let them go and pick a qualified Realtor and mortgage broker who can.
